OFFICIAL OPENING OF JAMIYAH FOODBANK WAREHOUSE

4th March 2017 marks another milestone for Jamiyah Singapore as it officiated the opening of its Food Bank Warehouse located at 9 Tannery Lane, Singapore.

Some 200 guests, including community leaders, volunteers, donors and sponsors, were present to witness the joyous ceremony that was graced by Mr Chan Chun Sing, Minister, Prime Minister’s Office, who was also the Guest-of-Honour at the event.

“Since the launch of Jamiyah Food Bank last year, we have received tremendous support and donations from various businesses and individuals, and Jamiyah is grateful for their generosity. At the same time, we want to ensure that the quality of items are not compromised. The warehouse helps us keep the food items in excellent condition before reaching the deserving recipients.” shared Dr H M Saleem, Vice President I, Jamiyah Singapore.

Jamiyah Singapore has been organising the food ration distribution programme for the poor and needy families in Singapore since the early 1970s. The continuous increment in the number of beneficiaries over the years, as well as the aim to reach out to more in the community who are in need, led to the establishment of the foodbank.

Currently, Jamiyah Singapore’s food ration distribution sees an average of 1,600 yearly and has seen an expansion of location to the heartlands through a collaborative effort on a constituency level, reaching out to constituencies such as Whampoa, Marine Parade and Rivervale. With the existence of Jamiyah Foodbank, the organisation is able to store more than just staples, like fruits, vegetables and Halal meat.
