COMMUNITY OUTREACH TO THE HEARTLAND: JALAN KUKUH

Jamiyah Food Bank stands true to its purpose and is committed in providing food for the poor and needy in Singapore, regardless of race and faiths. Putting food on the table of the disadvantaged families has always been Jamiyah’s Food Bank priority.

Another Community Outreach Channel that we connect with is at Jalan Kukuh. Perishable food items are delivered weekly on Wednesdays. Mr Ahmad, leads Persatuan Kebajikan Jalan Kukoh (PEKIK), which was established in 2012. PEKIK has been helpful in gathering all the volunteers and distributing the food items received to the poor and needy recipients who are in need.

Taken from their main Facebook page, PEKIK serves the welfare needs of community residing in the ”12 blocks of HDB rental units at Jalan Kukoh, Jalan Minyak and York Hill.” Also mentioned, some pressing issues in this community include ”Single parent-ship (25%), absent family support for elderly (15%) and chronic sickness (10%).”

Jamiyah Food Bank is pleased with the continuous partnership and tireless efforts done by PEKIK. We hope the resilience spirit of the community never ends. All the best to PEKIK!

COMMUNITY OUTREACH TO THE HEARTLAND: MARSILING

Jamiyah Food Bank is committed to providing food for the poor and needy in Singapore, regardless of race and faiths. Our aim is to distribute to these disadvantaged families or individuals and ensure there’s daily food on the table for them.

One of our Community Outreach Channel was at Marsiling Blk 4. We deliver perishable food items of vegetables and fruits to them on a weekly basis. The beneficiaries would collect the food every Tuesday and they have a systematic arrangment of collection at the void deck with the help of volunteers from Marsiling residents.

It is heartwarming to see all the food items being distributed to the right people who are really in need.

AVIVA VOLUNTEERS WITH JAMIYAH FOOD BANK

In preparation for Jamiyah’s 85th Carnival on 13 and 14 May 2017, Food Bank was involved in a mass distribution of 400 food rations to Jamiyah Beneficiaries as well as Eunos residents who are in need.

On 5 May 2017,  AVIVA did their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in Jamiyah Food Bank by doing the mass food packing of 400 for the food ration distribution for Jamiyah’s 85th Carnival. AVIVA volunteers were briefed about Jamiyah’s establishment, the Food Bank’s purpose and its recipients that it has tapped on.

A tour was held for them to witness the functions and facilities of Jamiyah Food Bank, followed by the real task of the day, mass food packing. It is something new to most of them and they were eager and full of energy in finishing the 400 packets of rations.

Thank you AVIVA for bringing your compassionate and dynamic volunteers to Jamiyah Food Bank, to another fulfilling collaboration soon!

VOLUNTEER COHESION WITH RED CROSS

Since the Opening of Jamiyah Food Bank Warehouse on 4 March 2017, Jamiyah Food Bank is officially open for operation. With that, we receive much positive response from generous donors from the public as well as other organizations in regards to donation.

On 18 March 2017, Red Cross came on board and held our very first Food Bank Volunteer activity in the Warehouse. Some 20 compassionate volunteers came down on Saturday morning to participate in this activity and being shared the experience of a Food Bank Warehouse and its facilities.

They were briefed and introduced to Jamiyah’s history, Food Bank’s objective and the beneficiaries we have reached out to.  Afterward, they were brought around for a short tour of the warehouse followed by the actual work of packing the food ration and, peeling off the stickers from a Jam jar received by a donor.

The hard work ends with a debrief and words of thanks. You guys are awesome, thank you, volunteers, for spending your Saturday with Jamiyah Food Bank!

OFFICIAL OPENING OF JAMIYAH FOODBANK WAREHOUSE

4th March 2017 marks another milestone for Jamiyah Singapore as it officiated the opening of its Food Bank Warehouse located at 9 Tannery Lane, Singapore.

Some 200 guests, including community leaders, volunteers, donors and sponsors, were present to witness the joyous ceremony that was graced by Mr Chan Chun Sing, Minister, Prime Minister’s Office, who was also the Guest-of-Honour at the event.

“Since the launch of Jamiyah Food Bank last year, we have received tremendous support and donations from various businesses and individuals, and Jamiyah is grateful for their generosity. At the same time, we want to ensure that the quality of items are not compromised. The warehouse helps us keep the food items in excellent condition before reaching the deserving recipients.” shared Dr H M Saleem, Vice President I, Jamiyah Singapore.

Jamiyah Singapore has been organising the food ration distribution programme for the poor and needy families in Singapore since the early 1970s. The continuous increment in the number of beneficiaries over the years, as well as the aim to reach out to more in the community who are in need, led to the establishment of the foodbank.

Currently, Jamiyah Singapore’s food ration distribution sees an average of 1,600 yearly and has seen an expansion of location to the heartlands through a collaborative effort on a constituency level, reaching out to constituencies such as Whampoa, Marine Parade and Rivervale. With the existence of Jamiyah Foodbank, the organisation is able to store more than just staples, like fruits, vegetables and Halal meat.
